Objective:
The objective of this cooperative agreement is to promote scientific and academic cooperation between the USDA, Agricultural Research Service's research unit based at the Jornada Experimental Range (ARS) and the New Mexico State University, based in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Cooperation activities include joint cooperative research and development projects regarding land management and the improvement of the Land-Potential Knowledge System.

Approach:
Research and development activities concern primarily the development, piloting and implementation of a global Land-Potential Knowledge System in the United States and Africa. Research activities will be focused primarily on developing and evaluating open-source and open-data mobile phone and cloud-based computing systems. These systems are intended to support knowledge and information generation and sharing necessary to sustainably support increased agricultural production and other ecosystem services. Collaborative academic activities including seminars, workshops, scientific meetings, and training activities will be planned according to mutual interests and requirements.
