Research Project: Identification of Wheat Germplasm with Increased Resistance to Biotic and Abiotic Stresses

Location: Wheat Health, Genetics, and Quality Research

Project Number: 2090-21000-033-14-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Mar 1, 2019
End Date: Feb 29, 2024

Objective:
To strengthen and enhance ongoing research in the area of biotic and abiotic stress resistance in wheat, with emphasis on stripe rust resistance, Fusarium head blight resistance and late maturing alpha amylase.

Approach:
Specific areas that are being investigated include the identification and fine mapping of new resistance alleles for stripe rust; field plot trials for Fusarium head blight resistance. Development of molecular markers for resistance gene introgression. Development and implementation of targeted amplicon sequencing markers and selection models for genomic selection for abiotic and biotic stress resistances in wheat.
