Location: Subtropical Insects and Horticulture Research
Project Number: 6034-21000-018-22-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Nov 1, 2018
End Date: Sep 30, 2021
Objective:
1. Cooperator will assist in propagating nursery material of new hybrid rootstocks and in establishing replicated field trials with these new hybrid rootstocks.
2) Cooperator will assist in collecting field performance data from replicated rootstock field trials, and in subsequent analysis and interpretation of data from those trials.
Approach:
Cooperator will assist with the following activities. Nursery trees from selected rootstocks for field trials will be propagated by seed or cuttings and budded with selected commercial scion cultivars. At the proper stage, nursery trees will be planted into randomized replicated trials on USDA farms or with commercial cooperators under PEA or MTA. Trees in the trials will be managed according to best management practices and as necessary to obtain the most relevant data for assessment of rootstock performance. Performance data from trials, including scion and root health, tree size, canopy health, disease status and titer, fruit yield, and field quality will be collected in coordination with commercial cooperators. Results from trials will be summarized and presented at conferences, meetings, and in publications, as appropriate.
