Research Project: Exploring the Polyembryonic Seed Trait in Mango as a Basis for a Biotechnology Platform for Fruit Tree Crops

Location: Subtropical Horticulture Research

Project Number: 6038-21000-024-04-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2018
End Date: Jul 31, 2021

Objective:
The overall goal of this program is to identify and clone the gene(s) that regulate polyembryony in mango (Mangifera indica).

Approach:
1.1. Using the annotated mango genome sequence assembly, identify candidate genes for regulation of polyembryony in mango. 1.2 Study the expression of the candidate genes in developing embryos using in situ hybridization. 1.3 Demonstrate "proof of concept" for candidate genes by function rescue in Arabidopsis homolog mutants.
