Research Project: Controlled Plant Growth Facilities to Facilitate USDA-ARS/Cornell Cooperative Research

Location: Plant, Soil and Nutrition Research

Project Number: 8062-21000-047-010-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2018
End Date: Aug 31, 2020

Objective:
USDA-ARS researchers located in Ithaca, NY contract use of Cornell University growth facilities to enable much of their ongoing independent and collaborative research and impacting multiple ARS research projects. ARS researchers and their projects are often delayed as a result of near capacity use of existing growth facilities by Cornell, ARS and other affiliated users. The objective of this project is to improve access to Cornell growth facilities for ARS researchers by participating in expansion of available growth chamber space.

Approach:
1) Growth chamber components including additional growth chamber cabinets and Argus environmental control systems will be purchased by ARS and used to update and expand growth chamber space at the Ithaca location. 2) Cornell staff will maintain, operate and manage these growth chambers brought on line as a result of this effort. 3) ARS staff will be provided access to these additional chambers via existing reservation and use systems.
