Location: Mosquito and Fly Research
Project Number: 6036-32000-052-08-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement
Start Date: Jun 26, 2019
End Date: Sep 30, 2020
We propose to develop and produce a functional public beta of the Mobile Pesticide App that (1) is a light, streamlined no-cost app designed for clarity and ease of use, (2) can function without network connection, (3) contains a core database of all Deployed WarFighter Protection Program (DWFP)-funded aerosol and residual field efficacy data to date, (4) may be easily and quickly updated with current, ongoing, and future DWFP aerosol and residual field efficacy data, (5) uses simple algorithms to draw from efficacy data to present clear guidance points to users structured by queries on environment/ecological region, target insect, pesticide application equipment, pesticide formulation and diluent, and control technique, (6) is configured for future expansion that may be in the form of additional layers of core data, analysis, and guidance points, additional functional modules, or links (informational or analytical) to other relevant information systems or databases, and (7) is mirrored in a full-featured web-browser version to support situations where mobile devices are prohibited.
We will transform the Mobile Pesticide App from the existing proof-of-concept into an independent, fully functioning publicly available mobile information and guidance system. The App is a logical, accessible repository for data generated from more than a decade of intense DWFP-funded field trials and is a dynamic system capable of taking in unlimited data from future Deployed WarFighter Protection Program (DWFP)- and non-DWFP-funded pest and vector control field trials relevant to the U.S. military. Design, development, and initial refinement and maintenance of the Mobile Pesticide App can be realistically and effectively funded within the DWFP cap in this three-year period, creating a solid platform for maintenance and expansion indefinitely beyond the funding period. This project is a key incremental step towards a dynamic end point, that is, a constantly improving Mobile Pesticide App providing relevant pest and vector control guidance to the U.S. military and diverse related non-military stakeholders into the future.
