Research Project: Discovering Sources of Resistance to Armillaria mellea in Pyrus Germplasm

Location: National Clonal Germplasm Repository

Project Number: 2072-21000-049-010-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2018
End Date: Sep 30, 2019

Objective:
Identify sources of resistance to Armillaria root disease within the Pyrus germplasm

Approach:
Seeds will be collected from 200 Pyrus accessions. Accessions will be selected from the Pyrus core collection with a focus on wild relative species and rootstock selections rather than fruit cultivars. Evaluation of this broad genetic background will maximize our chances of success. Stratified seed will be germinated and included in inoculation and genetic analysis studies.
