Research Project: Subsurface Transport of Phosphorus in No-Till Agricultural Fields and Their Relationship to Surface Water Quality and Stream Ecosystem Processes

Location: Northwest Sustainable Agroecosystems Research

Project Number: 2090-11000-010-004-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 28, 2018
End Date: Sep 27, 2023

Objective:
The overarching research objective is to understand the variability of soil P subsurface dynamics and its relationship with stream ecosystem nutrient processing to guide land management practices in the Palouse region.

Approach:
Through soil, and water monitoring we will: develop a total phosphorus stocks and flows budget for the Cook Agronomy Farm LTAR; quantify total P load exported though surface runoff and drain lines at the Cook Agronomy Farm field sites; and assess the relationship between drain line P exports, stream nutrient concentrations and ecosystem processes across seasons.
