Location: Southern Insect Management Research
Project Number: 6066-22000-090-001-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 1, 2018
End Date: Aug 31, 2023
Objective:
Examine non-chemical management tactics for important insect pests of southern row crops. Use these tactics to develop integrated approaches which may enable more economical insect management, reduce selection pressure on chemical controls, and reduce environmental impacts.
Approach:
Factors that are known to impact insect population dynamics including trap cropping, landscape management, variety selection, planting date, and biological controls will be examined in open field, field cages, and the laboratory. Factors will be examined individually and then the most promising strategies will be combined to evaluate the impact of the strategies within an integrated management program.
