Research Project: Using National Dietary Data, Building Blocks to Expand Your Research Portfolio

Location: Food Surveys Research Group

Project Number: 8040-53000-018-30-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Sep 15, 2018
End Date: Apr 1, 2019

Objective:
The workshop will provide the “building blocks” for using dietary intake data from What We Eat in America, NHANES 2015-2016. Key features on how the data are collected that relate to analyses will be described, and the research products and tools to augment dietary data analysis will be demonstrated. Attendees will be nutrition researchers that are members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Research Dietetics Practice Group. Anticipated outcomes will include understanding 1) the methodology and scientific validity of the 24-hour dietary recall data collection used in What We Eat in America (WWEIA), NHANES, and 2) content, structure, and role of USDA dietary survey databases when utilizing dietary intake data from WWEIA, NHANES; and utilization of resources to integrate WWEIA data into day-to-day clinical and health promotion practice and/or research.

Approach:
To bring together nutrition researchers from academia, health care, industry, and government to understand and use dietary intake data from WWEIA, NHANES 2015-2016 for use in research and clinical and public health practice.
