Research Project: Adaptive Multi-Paddock (AMP) Grazing Research Proposal

Location: Integrated Cropping Systems Research

Project Number: 3080-12620-005-04-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Dec 1, 2017
End Date: Sep 30, 2019

Objective:
Determine effects of grazing management practices on soil biological measures that relate to soil health and the ecosystem services provided by soil organisms.

Approach:
Soil samples will be collected in a defensible manner from replicated ranches performing specified types of grazing practices. These soil samples will be analyzed in the laboratory for measures that include: basal and substrate-induced respiration, community structure, presence of specific indicator taxa, and functional gene abundances that support ecologically-important processes such as C and N transformations.
