Research Project: Identifying Anti-Psyllid and Anti-Aphid Compounds From Epiphytic Fungi That Associate With Morning Glories

Location: Temperate Tree Fruit and Vegetable Research

Project Number: 2092-22000-021-22-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2018
End Date: May 31, 2020

Objective:
Examine crude plant extracts and targeted chemicals within those extracts for antifeeding activity against potato psyllid and green peach aphid.

Approach:
Plant species found in earlier work to have strong antifeedant effects for potato psyllid will be extracted in solvent. Crude extracts will then be assayed against the psyllid and green peach aphid to confirm activity. Active extracts will be sent to the endophyte laboratory at Oregon State University to identify chemicals present in active extracts that are not present in inactive extracts. Those chemicals will eventually be assayed against psyllids and aphids to confirm activity.
