Research Project: Improving DayCent to Model Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) from Specialty Crops

Objective:
1) Publish Specialty crops Modeling work in the Peer-reviewed Literature. 2) Clarify how to implement select USDA Methods Document manure management methods in COMET-FARM, publish USDA Methods Document errata sheet.

Approach:
1) Publish peer-reviewed articles in the scientific literature that reflect DayCent model development for California specialty crops, expecially those practices that were not well established in the model, previously. The two or three articles will reflect the performance of DayCent for 1) cool season vegetables, 2) warm season vegetables, 3)tree crops and 4)grapes. Examine typical production scenarios within these specialty crop systems and document model performance for unique practices in California agriculture. 2) Correct typographical errors and correct methodological issues in the USDA Methods Document.
