Research Project: Development of a Molecular Assay for Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lactucae

Location: Crop Improvement and Protection Research

Project Number: 2038-22000-016-24-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 1, 2017
End Date: Mar 31, 2019

Objective:
The objective of the project is to develop a diagnostic assay for Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lactucae that can also be useful for quantification of the pathogen in the soil.

Approach:
The genomes of 5 isolates of the pathogen have been sequenced by Illumina and a preliminary genome assembled. A similar dataset has been assembled for other formae specialis of F. oxysporum as part of our project developing diagnostic markers for Fusarium wilt of strawberry and will be used in comparative genomics to identify sequences unique to F. oxysporum f. sp. lactucae (Objective 2).
