Location: Global Change and Photosynthesis Research
Project Number: 5012-12220-010-002-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement
Start Date: Apr 1, 2018
End Date: Mar 31, 2022
Objective:
Objective 1: Quantify synergistic impact of rye residues and herbicides on weed seedling growth and survival under controlled environment and field conditions.
Objective 2: Elucidate physiological impact of rye residues on herbicide metabolism of weed seedlings.
Approach:
We will conduct controlled environment and field studies of the independent and combined effects of soil incorporated rye residues and S-metolachlor on the growth and survival of Amaranthus retroflexus and Amaranthus tuberculatus seedlings. Within greenhouse studies only, we will quantify the dose response of Amaranthus spp. mortality to S-metolachlor in soils with and without rye amendment. Finally, we will use standard herbicide metabolism laboratory procedures to determine whether shifts in S-metolachlor dose response of Amaranthus seedlings is due to altered detoxification, altered translocation or another mechanism.
