Research Project: Extending Agricultural Conservation Planning Framework Land Use Database

Location: Agroecosystems Management Research

Project Number: 5030-13000-011-60-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 1, 2018
End Date: Aug 31, 2019

Objective:
Develop land use and field boundary datasets for areas of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and/or Virginia.

Approach:
This work comprises development of land use and field boundary databases for small watersheds in the western Lake Erie basin and Chesapeake Bay watersheds. Processes to be employed have already been documented, and involve establishing or editing boundaries of farm fields, removing county and farm level data from any USDA-sourced field boundaries, developing watershed attribution for field polygons at the Hydrological Unit Code (HUC)-12 watershed scale, evaluate sufficiency of existing boundaries, and edit as appropriate to better represent more recent cropping patterns. Priority counties have already been identified based on priority Midwestern river basins in the Mississippi River and Lake Erie basins.
