Research Project: An Ecologically Based Push-Pull Strategy for Stable Flies on Pasture Cattle in the Central Plains

Location: Agroecosystem Management Research

Project Number: 3042-32000-011-004-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2017
End Date: Jun 30, 2022

Objective:
To develop an ecologically-based push-pull strategy for stable flies and horn flies on pasture cattle in the Central Plains

Approach:
Discover and implement novel long lasting botanical-based repellents to drive biting flies away from cattle; and develop more efficient attractant compounds and trapping systems for the Pull strategy. Field evaluation of the discovered long lasting repellent compounds from the coconut oil and their spray-on formulation will be investigated.
