Research Project: Identifying Novel Potato Germplasm with Resistance Against Cyst Nematode and Dickeya Pathogens

Location: Emerging Pests and Pathogens Research

Project Number: 8062-22000-022-020-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2017
End Date: Aug 31, 2020

Objective:
Screen a group of wild potato species to identify new potato germplasm that confer resistance to potato cyst nematodes or blackleg disease.

Approach:
1. Use pot or canister assay to screen wild potato species for resistance against G. rostochienisis Ro2 and G. pallida. 2. Use stem, tuber, and/or motility assays to screen wild potato species for resistance against Dickeya. UPDATE, 2019: 3. Oversee propagation and maintenance of wild potato plants for screening for resistant traits.
