Research Project: Integrated Management Strategies for Disease Control in Common Bean

Location: Grain Legume Genetics Physiology Research

Project Number: 2090-21220-002-006-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 30, 2017
End Date: Sep 29, 2022

Objective:
To develop cultivars that respond best to integrated strategies involving irrigation x tillage management for control of Sclerotinia white mold disease in common bean.

Approach:
1) Impose different irrigation delivery options from center pivots in the field to help reduce canopy wetness in white mold disease nurseries. Treatments include high, medium, and low set sprinkler options and with two different applications, frequent and less water, or less frequent and more water. 2) Identify cultivars with different disease avoidance characteristics and levels of physiological resistance which respond the best to the different irrigation management options. 3) Examine conventional and minimum tillage effects x irrigation management x cultivar interaction effects.
