Research Project: New Genotyping Technology for Small Grains

Location: Plant Science Research

Project Number: 6070-22000-018-013-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 15, 2017
End Date: Sep 14, 2022

Objective:
This project will work to develop new next generation sequencing based genotyping methodology in small grains.

Approach:
A database of Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) data will be examined to identify and select SNP markers respresenting haplotype blocks. The contextual sequences will be used to develop primers pools. Protocols will be developed for next-generation sequencing of deep primer pools representing thousands of markers spread through out the genome. A pipeline for variant calling will be developed using publicly available tools.
