Field collection of environmental samples and perform carbon analyses. Functional gene probe analyses and biochemical assays for carbon dynamics assessment. Microbial population characterization and dynamics. Use geospatial data to scale up observations to landscape and watershed scales. Generate manuscript for peer review publications.
Wetland sites that occur across the alteration gradient (natural, restored and drained wetlands) will be characterized for biogeochemical function relative to carbon dynamics. Measured dynamics will be related to geospatial parameters for scaling up to landscape and watershed scales for SWAT model parameterization. The cooperator will work with ARS and other study participants to also analyze the data within the context of ecosystem service delivery.
