Research Project: Biological Control of the Olive Fly in California

Location: European Biological Control Laboratory

Project Number: 0212-22000-027-19-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Jul 21, 2017
End Date: Sep 30, 2017

Objective:
1) To mass-rear the olive fruit fly natural enemy P. lounsburyi to supply field releases in California. This will support an ongoing biological control program for olive fly in California.

Approach:
EBCL will conduct the Psyttalia mass-rearing operation in our quarantine laboratory using existing colonies. Additional live specimens will be collected by foreign cooperators to improve the genetic quality of our colonies. Large numbers of live specimens will be shipped under appropriate APHIS and French permits to cooperators in California for evaluation and field release.
