Research Project: Is Matrimony Vine the June Source of Potato Psyllids Colonizing Potatoes in the Pacific Northwest?

Location: Temperate Tree Fruit and Vegetable Research

Project Number: 2092-22000-022-009-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2017
End Date: May 31, 2022

Objective:
Using molecular techniques, confirm that potato psyllids arriving in potatoes in June have DNA of matrimony vine in their guts, evidence that matrimony vine is a source of psyllids arriving in potato.

Approach:
Potato psyllids will be collected on yellow sticky cards placed near potato fields during the summer colonization period. Psyllids will be examined using PCR to determine if DNA from matrimony vine can be detected, evidence that psyllids had recently been feeding on this host plant.
