Research Project: Next Generation Sequences to Uncover Fungal Virulence and Fungicide Resistance Mechanisms(s) in the Blue Mold Fungus

Location: Food Quality Laboratory

Project Number: 8042-42430-002-01-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2017
End Date: Sep 1, 2018

Objective:
The objective of this agreement is to support ARS research through collaborative efforts that provide high throughput next generation sequencing for Penicillium spp. that cause postharvest decay of apple and pear fruit during storage and for whole genome and transcriptome sequencing of fungicide-resistant strains.

Approach:
The Cooperator will prepare libraries and generate NGS sequencing from infected and non-inoculated control apple and pear fruit and conduct high throughput sequencing of fungicide resistant strains. ARS will provide the Cooperator with purified and quantified DNA and RNA as outlined in the USDA ARS parent project plan. Cooperator will conduct initial alignment and comparison analysis and will send the data to ARS.
