Research Project: Yellow Bean Genetics

Location: Sugarbeet and Bean Research

Project Number: 5050-21430-011-05-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 1, 2017
End Date: Feb 14, 2021

Objective:
To genotype a yellow bean diversity panel and a yellow bean RIL population and to phenotype the same populations for cooking time and nutritional and sensory attributes.

Approach:
The populations will be genotyped with the genotype by sequencing (GBS) approach. The GBS libraries will be sequenced at Cooperator's Research Technology Support. Sequencing will be conducted in a 1x100bp single end format sequencer. Run data will be converted to FastQ format. The data will be demultiplexed, processed, and aligned to the Phaseolus vulgaris (common bean) reference genome sequence. The populations will be grown at the Cooperator's Research Farm in 2017 and 2018. Phenotypic data including cooking time, resistant starch and sensory and flavor attributes will be measured on seeds by cooperator as well as conduct QTL mapping and GWAS with the data.
