Research Project: Improving Seed Protein Through Management and Understanding Nitrogen Metabolism

Location: Coastal Plain Soil, Water and Plant Conservation Research

Project Number: 6082-13000-010-001-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2017
End Date: Sep 30, 2019

Objective:
1) Understand the impact of environment and management on soybean seed composition. 2) Determine which plant nitrogen flux(es) can be manipulated to increase seed protein. 3) Integrate management strategies with relevant nitrogen flux traits for optimizing seed protein.

Approach:
Field studies will be conducted to determine the impact of tillage on seed composition. Field studies will also be conducted to assess the contribution of plant nitrogen from fixation, uptake, and remobilization to seed protein in cultivars that differ for seed protein content.
