Research Project: Development of Protein and Peptide-based Micro-arrays for Peanut and Tree Nut Allergy Diagnosis

Location: Food Processing and Sensory Quality Research

Project Number: 6054-43440-052-006-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Apr 15, 2017
End Date: Apr 14, 2021

Objective:
Improving diagnosis of true peanut and tree nut allergy and cross-reactivity.

Approach:
We propose to identify the IgE and IgG4 biding sites for known peanut and tree nut allergens with serum from approximately 250 clinically well-characterized, nut allergic individuals and 100 non-allergic individuals from different locations around the US. Following professional statistical analysis, the clinically important versus unimportant IgE and IgG4 binding will be identified and used to improve diagnosis of nut allergy and clinically symptomatic cross-reactivity among nuts.
