Research Project: Developing Monitoring Devices to Track Shipping and Storage Conditions that Impact Food Safety and Quality

Location: Healthy Processed Foods Research

Project Number: 2030-41430-001-04-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 15, 2017
End Date: Jun 14, 2018

Objective:
The objective of this agreement is to form a collaborative research project to develop rugged, inexpensive electronic devices for the monitoring of shipping and/or storage conditions that have impact on the quality and/or safety of food products. The design and construction of such devices will be based on the existing device previously developed and patented by Alicorns Corp for continuous temperature monitoring of food products.

Approach:
Given the quality/safety parameters to be monitored, ARS will conduct appropriate literature reviews and consultations with experts in the field to determine the optimal conditions as well as acceptable ranges. Alicorns and ARS personnel will jointly determine the appropriate methodologies for monitoring the parameters of interest. Alicorns personnel will then develop a design for incorporation in their monitoring device.
