Location: Plant Genetics Research
Project Number: 5070-21000-040-14-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Dec 1, 2016
End Date: May 30, 2020
Objective:
The objective of this research is to establish a HOLL plus soybean breeding and molecular selection program dedicated to developing high yielding maturity group III and IV soybean varieties for Missouri farmers.
Approach:
In the first two years of the project, new populations will be developed with the best sources of all of the plus traits as parent material. An intricate crossing, advancement, and selection strategy will then follow to carry out the soybean breeding and variety development work. The HOLL trait will be incorporated into elite soybean varieties and breeding lines through a parallel trait introgression approach using molecular markers.
Breeding methods such as conventional forward crossing, early generation selection (pedigree), and utilizing large population sizes will also be used to maximize efficiency and probability of success in staking multiple composition traits into high yielding soybean varieties.
