Research Project: Improving Pennycress and Winter Camelina to Allow Cover Crops to be Harvested

Location: Soil Management Research

Project Number: 5060-21220-006-03-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 1, 2017
End Date: Dec 31, 2018

Objective:
The Forever Green Initiative oilseed agronomy team that includes the University of Minnesota and USDA-ARS will develop improved management practices by (a) evaluating winter oilseed planting dates and establishment methods across a range of cropping systems, and (b) developing winter oilseed harvest management guidelines for the oilseeds for increased oilseed and cash crop yields.

Approach:
The Forever Green Oilseed Research team will test the deployment of a range of oilseed planting dates and four planting methods in experiments at four environments spanning two-years. The Forever Green Oilseed Research team will evaluate impacts of two oilseed harvest dates (early and late) and two oilseed harvest techniques (swathing; e.g., cutting prior to harvest; and non-swathing; e.g., direct harvest) on oilseed and soybean yield in field-scale research trial (Year 1 and repeated in Year 2).
