Research Project: Genes and Markers for Resistance to Phytophthora Sojae, Pythium spp., and Fusarium Graminearum in Soybean

Location: Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research

Project Number: 5030-21220-006-02-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 1, 2017
End Date: Dec 31, 2018

Objective:
Identify and characterize genes for resistance and partial resistance to Phytopthora sojae, Pythium spp and Fusarium graminearum in soybean to reduce yield losses due to disease.

Approach:
1. Use Virus Induced Gene Silencing (VIGS) to assay the function of candidate Phytopthora sojae resistance and defense genes. 2. Use next generation sequencing approaches to identify and characterize gene network providing resistance to Phytophthora sojae and other fungal diseases.
