Research Project: WEPP Model, Interface, and Database Development and Testing

Location: National Soil Erosion Research Laboratory

Project Number: 5020-12130-003-015-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Feb 1, 2017
End Date: Aug 31, 2019

Objective:
Improve and further develop the ARS Water Erosion Prediction Project (WEPP) model to predict soil loss, sedimentation, gully erosion from hillslopes and small watersheds and compare WEPP model predictions with measured data and those predicted by the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE2).

Approach:
1) Improve hillslope delineation and watershed geometry from current geo-spatial elevation data, including those acquired by the LiDAR technology; 2) Compare and analyze differences in soil loss from WEPP and RUSLE2 models for typical cropping systems across the US; 3) Improve and validate, with measured data, the WEPP watershed model for conservation practices that may be applied within a small farm watershed inclduing grassed waterways and small impoundments.
