Research Project: Research Support for Watershed and Basin Hydrology

Location: Agricultural Water Efficiency and Salinity Research Unit

Project Number: 2036-61000-019-001-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2016
End Date: Sep 30, 2022

Objective:
To evaluate the utility of innovative, distributed, low impact development (LID) infrastructure and best management practices (BMPs) for wet weather capture and drinking water aquifer recharge in the arid and semi-arid southwestern USA.

Approach:
USDS-ARS Riverside will employ the HYDRUS model to estimate how thick vadose zone spanning from the ground to the water table can accept runoff water via the dry well and recharge it laterally and vertically into the subsurface.
