Research Project: High Oleic/Low Lin (HOLL) Soybean Breeding - IL

Location: Plant Genetics Research

Project Number: 5070-21000-040-008-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2016
End Date: Aug 31, 2019

Objective:
Lead the HOLL breeding effort for maturity groups II and III. Develop and identify new high yielding soybean lines to be used in forward and backcrossing efforts for the high oleic/low linolenic traits. Identify and test HOLL lines emerging from the backcrossing program.

Approach:
1) Continuous development, selection and nomination of soybean lines to be used as recurrent parents for conversion to HOLL based on yield trials. 2) Yearly crosses made of an HOLL donor line to nominated parents followed by a dedicated backcrossing program in the winter nursery. 3) Utilize existing selection strategies to select highest yielding HOLL lines to target for variety release.
