Research Project: Technical Support for NRCS Users of WEPS, the Wind Erosion Prediction System

Location: Rangeland Resources & Systems Research

Project Number: 3012-21610-003-021-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Sep 9, 2016
End Date: Sep 30, 2019

Objective:
1) Develop and program the science into the WEPS software to perform multiple region wind erosion predictions within a single field through use of sub-field predictions that account for different soils and management strategies within a single field. 2) Finalize the web-based version of WEPS software.

Approach:
1. Gather the science and perform the software coding to allow WEPS to perform wind erosion predictions within a single field through use of subfield predictions that account for different soils and management strategies (e.g., strip cropping, cover crops, etc) within a single field. 2. Develop a technical document on the methodology and associated science used in the development of the sub-field predictions for wind erosion. 3. Finalize the science and coding for the web-based version of WEPS.
