Research Project: Development of New Molecular Markers to Facilitate Selection for Pierce’s Disease Resistant Grapevines in California

Location: Crop Diseases, Pests and Genetics Research

Project Number: 2034-22000-012-09-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2016
End Date: Jun 30, 2019

Objective:
1. Screening and identification of Pierce’s disease (PD) resistant progeny in b43-17 and N18-6 hybrid populations. 2. Continue developing next generation biomarkers and linkage map for PD resistance in South East US grape populations.

Approach:
1. Characterize disease severity and Xf titers in greenhouse experiments to identify breeding lines with the highest level of resistance possible. 2. Evaluate molecular markers for co-segregation with PD resistance.
