Research Project: Detection and Disease Forecasting for Downy Mildew Pathogens

Location: Crop Improvement and Protection Research

Project Number: 2038-22000-016-10-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 30, 2016
End Date: Sep 29, 2021

Objective:
The objective of this non assistance cooperative agreement is to develop downy mildew disease detection and disease forecasting approaches.

Approach:
The approach includes collection of spore trap samples and disease incidence data and analyses of spore trap sample data by quantitative real time PCR, in addition to carrying out standard PCR experiments on spinach leaf samples to investigate the relationship between latent infections and disease appearance, and to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of downy mildew in relation to the detection results.
