Research Project: Thermotolerant Legumes for Sustainable Protein Production

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6070-21220-070-001-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Feb 1, 2019
End Date: Jan 31, 2024

Objective:
1. Identify post-translational regulatory networks that govern responses to early-season cold and late-season heat stress; 2. Predict phenotype trajectories from molecular data using machine learning; and 3. Identify and validate temperature-associated, protein-based breeding markers for soybean and other legumes.

Approach:
In this project, we will identify post-translational protein modifications that improve yield and seed protein content in soybean following periods of high or low temperature stress. We will accomplish this using advanced network analysis algorithms and machine learning to link molecular responses with agronomic results.
