Research Project: Investigate the Pathogenesis and Biology of Emerging and Re-Emerging Swine Viral Diseases

Location: Virus and Prion Research

Project Number: 5030-32000-118-12-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2016
End Date: Dec 31, 2019

Objective:
Investigate the pathogenesis and biology of emerging and re-emerging swine viral diseases.

Approach:
Senecavirus (SVA) field isolates will be utilized in experiments conducted by the ARS and the Cooperator that will include animal inoculations and molecular studies to characterize the pathogenesis, immunology, and antigenic properties of this virus. Studies investigating endemic PEDV infections in the swine herd will focus on the biology and antigenic properties of current viruses compared with original PEDV outbreak viruses, and the evaluation and potential development of novel PEDV vaccines.
