Research Project: Genomic Insights into Potato Cyst Nematodes

Location: Horticultural Crops Research

Project Number: 2072-22000-043-20-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2016
End Date: May 31, 2019

Objective:
Characterize the molecular diversity that exists within and among Globodera populations to guide eradication and decision making regarding containment.

Approach:
Illumina sequencing will be used to sequence the genomes of a diverse set of Globodera populations from the United States. The data generated will then be analyzed to discover genes which are under selection pressure and that may play a role in pathogenicity. This information will be compiled and further analyzed to characterize the risk and eradication potential of the populations from U.S. potato production fields.
