Location: Arthropod-borne Animal Diseases Research
Project Number: 3020-32000-009-024-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 1, 2016
End Date: Aug 31, 2019
Objective:
Development and validation of novel in situ hybridization platforms for detection of Rift Valley fever (RVF) viral RNA in tissues. In the NP103 Animal Health Project related to bunyaviruses there is a goal to understand the mechanisms of viral pathogenesis, which will require the generation of necessary pathological tools.
Approach:
1. Develop high sensitivity in situ hybridization assays for detection of RVF viral RNA in tissues and compare them to real time RT-PCR and IHC.
2. Evaluate multiplex in situ hybridization’s potential to offer a DIVA compatible platform for RVFV\ viral RNA detection in tissues.
