Research Project: How Do Management Factors Affect CRP Planting Success?

Location: Livestock and Range Research Laboratory

Project Number: 3030-21630-004-17-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Jul 8, 2016
End Date: Dec 31, 2019

Objective:
Understand factors regulating plant community compositions on Conservation Reserve Program lands.

Approach:
We will gather environmental (e.g. precipitation during the seeding year, soil type) and management (tillage, seed mix, seeder type) data on 200 Conservation Reserve Program lands just prior to seeding. Then, 2-4 years after seeding, we will measure plant abundances on the field. We will conduct an analysis to understand environmental and management factors promoting desired vegetation outcomes.
