Research Project: Siting, Sizing, and Installation of Flumes to Support Hydrologic Investigations at the Grazinglands Research Laboratory’s LTAR Research Site

Location: Agroclimate and Natural Resources Research

Project Number: 3070-13000-012-12-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: May 1, 2016
End Date: Nov 30, 2018

Objective:
To: 1) identify site location, size, and style of flumes, 2) installation of said flumes, and 3) installation and programming of automated water samplers in the production-level research watersheds at the ARS-USDA Grazinglands Research Laboratory (GRL) “model farm”, which is part GRL’s Long-term Agro-ecosystem Research (LTAR) sites.

Approach:
Use proven field instrumentation and approaches to collect water samples and measure selected components of the hydrologic cycle from medium-sized (about 25 acre) watersheds, under varying crop production, grazing, and conservation practices.
