To acquire current point-of-sales data for USDA food composition databases.

USDA will use the most recent market share data available to determine top brands for sampling under the National Food and Nutrient Analysis Program and for attribute determination of foods and beverages in the Food and Nutrient Database for Dietary Studies. In addition, these data will be merged with nutrient data from other sources to determine weighted estimates of nutrient content for the U.S. food supply.
