Research Project: IWYP – Three High-Value Genes for Higher Wheat Yield

Location: Office of International Research Engagement and Cooperation

Project Number: 0210-22310-005-051-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Jan 1, 2016
End Date: Sep 30, 2019

Objective:
To study the role of genes and pathways in the development of crown roots and tillers in wheat, in support of the overall project proposal submitted to IWYP39FP.

Approach:
This research is part of the International Wheat Yeld Program (IWYP), as a group research effort to use available transgenic wheat lines as a proof of concept for the optimal combination of the three genes AVP1, PSTOL1, and NAS to improve wheat yield; with a parallel, screening of diverse germplasm will identify the best natural alleles of the great genes for introgression into elite wheat cultivars and breeding lines. The UC Riverside team will provide expertise related to stress responses, the hormone ethylene and gene regulation. Team will worl closely with researchers at the Australian Center for Plant Functional Genomics.
