Research Project: Molecular Characterization of Avian Influenza Virus Collected During Active Surveillance of Backyard Flocks and Live Bird Markets in Pakistan

Location: Exotic & Emerging Avian Viral Diseases Research

Project Number: 6040-32000-066-21-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2015
End Date: Sep 14, 2018

Objective:
To determine the molecular characteristics of Pakistan avian influenza viruses in non-commercial poultry and understand their role in epidemiology of avian influenza.

Approach:
All avian influenza viruses from backyard and live poultry markets will be sequenced and the molecular data analyzed by software programs to determine phylogenetic relationships and genetic networks. Detailed molecular analysis will identify the gene pool of avian influenza circulating in Pakistan and their interconnections.
