Objective:
Objective: 1) Develop iceberg, romaine, and leaf lettuce cultivars with resistance to diseases and physiological defects and with extended shelf-life, 2) to determine the inheritance of these characters, and 3) develop molecular markers for marker assisted selection.

Approach:
Approach: Field, greenhouse, laboratory, and molecular marker experiments to develop and select lettuce lines with improved performance for fall, winter, and spring planting slots in California and Arizona.
