Research Project: Assessment of Levee Treatments for UAPB Lonoke Demonstration Farm Irrigation Reservoir

Location: Watershed Physical Processes Research

Project Number: 6060-13000-026-18-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Dec 16, 2015
End Date: Jan 31, 2018

Objective:
Assess treatment effectiveness for levees on an irrigation storage reservoir at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff Lonoke Demonstration Farm. Several treatments were applied in the past, and the erosion from each treated section will be compared.

Approach:
Using “as-built” information provided by NRCS as a starting point, surveys from different sections of the levee will be performed to find the amount of soil that has been eroded. The erosion measured in different sections will be compared to find out which levee treatment was most effective. The effective fetch and orientation of each treated area will be assessed so that treatments with greater fetch or orientation along the axis of prevailing winds can be properly accounted for. The results of the study will be communicated to NRCS and to interested landowners and producers.
