Research Project: Assessing Field Edge Water Quality Impacts of Conservation Practices

Location: Soil Drainage Research

Project Number: 5080-13210-002-007-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2016
End Date: Aug 19, 2021

Objective:
To determine quantitative discharge and water quality from surface and subsurface drainage pathways under different management treatments.

Approach:
The approach will be a before-after control-impact design. We will identify and instrument 2 surface and 2 subsurface outlets with distinct contributing areas within the selected production field. This will make up the pair of sites. Baseline data will be collected for a 2 year period. At that point a treatment will be implemented on one of the fields and data will be collected over the second 2 year period. This will permit us to quantify the impact of the treatment as well as that of the prevailing practice
