Research Project: Development of Cool-season Grass for Use in Dryland Semiarid Growing Environments in the U.S. and P.R. China

Location: Forage and Range Research

Project Number: 2080-21000-018-007-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 15, 2015
End Date: Jun 14, 2020

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to develop cool-season grass germplasm for use in dryland semiarid growing environments in the USA and PR China.

Approach:
Collaborative experiments will be jointly designed and implemented in the field in Logan, Utah, and in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (Province), China, where research concerning the Germplasm evaluation of U.S. grass accessions (cultivars and experimental lines) and selection of superior germplasm for plant stand establishment and persistence under abiotic stressed environments will be conducted under dryland semiarid growing conditions. This research will develop improved plant materials (grasses) with improved: (1) stand establishment; (2) persistence; (3) forage yield; and (4) seed yield for dryland semiarid environments in the United States and China.
